Enrichment

Recognizing the value of the arts and their role in enhancing performance across subject areas, Citizens of the World Charter School Crown Heights offers art, music, dance and movement multiple times a week to all students. We want all our students to be exposed to many different art forms and develop a love for instruments, movement and to experience all the possibilities as they construct a piece of artwork.

ART
In art class at Citizens of the World Crown Heights students are building community and confidence through the creative process! Students are exploring diverse art materials, developing their technical skill and learning to care for their art and classroom environment. We also practice the art of sharing, observing and reflecting on our art and other artists' work.

MOVEMENT (DANCE & PHYSICAL EDUCATION)
According to the National Dance Education's standards, dance engages learner's physical health, emotional maturation, social awareness, cognitive development, and academic achievement. At Citizens of the World Charter School Crown Heights, students develop an understanding of movement and dance through the study of the four cornerstones: technique, choreography, history, and critical analysis. The dance curriculum allows students to learn about various dance styles, basic traveling locomotor movements, while supporting their aesthetic development and artistic voice. Students are given the chance to demonstrate their learning through various performance opportunities at school functions throughout the year.

MUSIC
Our music program is focused on providing a holistic musical experience to each child, combining traditional classical instruction and real world experiences. Students receive music lessons on voice, piano and violin, as well as lessons in music theory, history, and appreciation. Winter and spring music concerts and recitals provide an opportunity for each child to showcase their musical talent and individuality.

SPANISH
Hola!! In our Spanish Enrichment class at students begin their introduction to Spanish by focusing on four key areas of foreign language study: listening, speaking, reading and writing.  We want to make Spanish fun, easy, and accessible to our students at the age they learn best. Using an auditory approach, student will learn the alphabet, numbers, basic greetings, numbers, days of the week, and much more. The goal of the program is to instill a life-long love of the Spanish Language and connect language and culture with the real world by improving their grasp of Spanish.
